Hare’s Altrincham Easter
Organised by Altrincham Unlimited, Altrincham’s Business Improvement District, family activities will run throughout the Easter holidays in Altrincham town centre.
‘Hare’s Altrincham Easter’ is based on a story by Alison Uttley, the author of the ‘Little Grey Rabbit’ books who lived on the Downs in Altrincham (1924-1938). Her book ‘Hare and the Easter Eggs’ tells the tale of Hare who ventures into town one night and is delighted to see a display of chocolate eggs in the window of a shop but doesn’t really know what they are. Join Hare, Little Grey Rabbit, Squirrel and all the other woodland creatures as they celebrate their first Easter.
The Easter activity will include a free family town trail, free children’s craft workshops, community art installations and a floristry workshop for the grown-ups!
Families are invited to help Hare to find his friends who are hiding in the shops around the town with a delicious Easter treat for every child who completes the trail. There’s also a chance to get involved in the creation of two town centre community art installations which will each include Easter eggs created in a series of workshops.
Decoupage Easter eggs from the workshops will be added to those made by local school children, from Altrincham Church of England Primary School, Navigation Primary School and Park Road Academy Primary School, to fill the trees on Shaw’s Road with a colourful Easter installation. The local ‘Knit and Natter’ group has also been working on knitted eggs to hang in the trees and has created the knitted woodland creatures for the town trail. The 2D Easter eggs from the drop-in workshops will be added to a design by local artist Gillian Parish to form a fabulous Easter window display on George Street.

Kate Gerbich, Events and Communications Manager for Altrincham Unlimited said: “Altrincham has a rich cultural heritage of which the author Alison Uttley is a part. We wanted this year’s Easter activities to celebrate this and for families to enjoy Altrincham during the Easter holidays. We have been working with our local schools, and one of our fabulous community groups, ‘Knit and Natter’ to create knitted and decoupage Easter eggs. The community art installations provide a great opportunity for everyone to get involved, either by taking part in one of the workshops or by coming into town to see the finished installations. We want to really add a splash of colour to the town centre this Easter”.
*Parental or guardian supervision is required for the trail and all children’s workshops.
*Altrincham Unlimited reserve the right to cancel the Shaw’s Road art installation in the case of adverse weather conditions.
‘Hare’s Altrincham Easter’ has been produced by Altrincham Unlimited, Altrincham’s Business Improvement District which is funded by the businesses in Altrincham.
