Businesses in Altrincham town centre have welcomed this year’s enhanced display of Christmas lights within the recently established Business Improvement District.

In the absence of council funding, Altrincham Unlimited (the new name for the Business Improvement District) has committed to funding festive lights displays across the town centre over the coming four years. The display this year is vastly enhanced on previous years and visitors will be greeted with a ‘Merry Christmas Altrincham’ message at key gateways. The scheme also includes a 25ft real Christmas tree on the junction of Shaw's Road and George Street, and distinctive tree lights on Regent Road and Old Market Place. The new designs and gold and silver colour scheme were developed to coordinate with the Stamford Quarter shopping centre, which also has new displays this year.

In addition Citybranch, the developers currently working on the new Health & Wellbeing Centre on the site of the former Altrincham hospital, have made a donation to the initiative.

Katie Bland, Altrincham Unlimited Manager said:

“For retail and food and drink businesses, the five weeks leading up to Christmas are crucial to a successful trading year, so making the town as festive, inviting and engaging as possible was a priority for Altrincham Unlimited in our first year of operation.

“We have worked hard in the face of a number of technical challenges to bring Christmas lights to as many parts of Altrincham town centre as practically possible this year.  We hope that businesses can see the improvement and will see a positive impact on trading. It’s wonderful to see the town looking so bright and festive, and makes Altrincham a really attractive place to shop, eat and drink for visitors, residents and workers.”

Adam Gross, Managing Director of Citybranch said

“We are delighted to support Altrincham Unlimited’s enhanced Christmas lights display this year.  Altrincham has come on in leaps and bounds over the past five years, and we are pleased to be a part of the story, initially developing the new Hospital and now the Health & Wellbeing Centre.

“We had no hesitation in contributing to the Christmas lights, and hope local residents, visitors and businesses will enjoy the brighter town centre over the festive period.”

Pamela Macauley, owner of Vintage Angel Design on Moss Lane said:

“This will be my third Christmas trading as an independent retailer in Altrincham, but the first time our street has been lit up with Christmas lights. We’re delighted that Altrincham Unlimited has made festive lights a priority this year, and are sure our customers will feel the same. They look stunning, and will definitely help to put Moss Lane and its hub of independent retailers on the map during the key Christmas shopping weeks.”
