Over 8,000 head to Altrincham for bank holiday music bonanza

31 Aug 2017

Thousands of revellers headed to Altrincham over the August bank holiday weekend to enjoy ‘Sounds Like Altrincham’; a series of live music events in venues across the town, organised by Altrincham Unlimited.

Events including the Goose Green Summer Festival, Kings Court Summer Festival and Orangefest at the Orange Tree Inn attracted over 8000 visitors over two days to enjoy live bands and singers, street food and family entertainment in the sun.

The bulk of the visitors headed for the Goose Green Summer Festival, with over 3500 people attending on the Saturday and over 4500 on the Sunday. Overall footfall in Altrincham for the weekend was an up an impressive 31% year-on-year on the Saturday and 10% on the Sunday.

Highlights included sets from up-and-coming local artists The Jade Assembly, Jess Kemp, The Bright Black, Blank Cheque and The Rainband, while Green Room regulars The Henry Revue’s reggae vibe hit just the right note in the afternoon sunshine.

Katie Bland, BID Manager for Altrincham Unlimited said:

“The third Goose Green Summer Festival was the biggest and best yet, and new events at Kings Court and the Orange Tree encouraged people to explore the town centre. A number of venues enjoyed record trading days and the feedback from businesses and visitors has been unanimously positive. Sounds Like Altrincham has really put Altrincham on the map as a fantastic August Bank Holiday destination, and our focus now will be on drawing in even more venues for 2018.”

Jon Belfield, Presenter at Trafford Sound said:

“When Altrincham Unlimited asked us to curate the music for this year’s Goose Green Summer Festival we had no hesitation in saying yes. Via our Wednesday evening ‘Live & Local’ show we’ve met some of the best local bands around, and we loved seeing many of them at the festival this weekend. It was a brilliant opportunity for young bands and singers to play to hundreds of people and they all rose to the occasion with some excellent perfomances. We’d like to thank them all for coming along and making the festival such a great success this year.”

Anthony Prophet of The Green Room and Traders Tiki Bar said:

“It’s been brilliant to see the Goose Green Summer Festival grow from a modest community celebration to one of the highlights of the Altrincham calendar, and we’re proud to have played a part in that. Our visiting DJ Vinni Soul had flown in from Miami specially for the event, and he was blown away by the atmosphere here in Altrincham this weekend. It was our busiest ever weekend at Traders Tiki Bar, and we can’t wait to see where the festival goes from here!”
