Music Festival attracts thousands to Altrincham
For the fourth year Goose Green Festival has proved a massive hit. The annual music festival is held in Goose Green on the Saturday and Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend, showcasing unsigned musical talent with fabulous food and drink. The event is organised by Altrincham Unlimited, Altrincham’s Business Improvement District (the BID) which is funded by Altrincham’s businesses, along with the Goose Green Traders with musical direction supplied by Jon Belfield presenter of ‘Live & Local’ on Trafford Sound.
Saturday was a record-breaking day for the Festival with over 4,650 visitors enjoying the festival throughout the course of the day and even with the rainfall on Sunday just under 2,000 festival goers came along.
Goose Green Festival proudly hosted some incredible unsigned talent, including Dancing on Tables, whose latest EP has just passed a million streams on Spotify; Corella who next month play alongside Franz Ferdinand at the British Sound Project; Apollo Junction who played the Isle of Wight Festival this year; and one of Altrincham’s favourites Jess Kemp who was also playing Manchester Pride at the weekend and not forgetting Izzie Walsh who was fresh from the Bluedot Festival.
This year the event supported the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT). John Thomson, ambassador for the charity, was interviewed on the stage by compere Andy Egan about CAFT who provide holidays and activities for terminally ill, chronically sick, disabled and disadvantaged children, he also talked about the forthcoming series of ‘Cold Feet’, no spoilers were to be had! Nearly £1000 was raised for the charity.
Rob Bashforth, from CAFT said: “We are hugely grateful to Goose Green Festival for supporting CAFT this year and raising such a phenomenal amount. Thanks also goes to John Thomson for his ongoing support for the charity and to the Rotary Club for helping us with collections on the day.”
Elizabeth Faulkner, BID Manager for Altrincham Unlimited said: “Goose Green Festival continues to grow each year and has achieved a great reputation locally for showcasing unsigned talent, visitor numbers to the town were fantastic, and we were thrilled to raise so much money for CAFT. A number of venues reported record trading days and the feedback from businesses and visitors has been really positive”.
Jon Belfield, Presenter at Trafford Sound said: “When Altrincham Unlimited asked us to work with them again on the music for this year’s Goose Green Festival we had no hesitation in saying yes. Through our Wednesday evening ‘Live & Local’ show we’ve met some of the best local bands around as well as some from further afield. This year we’ve included a real variety of music, everything from Indie, Rock n Roll, Country, Acoustic and Pop, there was something to appeal to everyone. The Festival provides a brilliant opportunity for young bands and singers to play to hundreds of people and they all rose to the occasion with some great performances.” Peter Luby from Costello’s, confirmed: “Overall the weekend was buzzing, Saturday was the busiest trading day ever for Costello’s and we have loved being part of the Festival, thanks goes to the BID team for organising this fantastic event!”
